To get started, navigate to the JamA11y tab in the portal and select "Upload files"
You'll then have two options depending on your document type:
Option 1: To add accessibility features without changing the layout or visual appearance of your PDF, select the option "Remediate a PDF". This adds tags, alt text, and metadata to bring the file in line with the PDF/UA standard.
Once processing is complete, select "Download PDF" to save your PDF.
Option 2: For documents with STEM content, complex layouts, or scanned and handwritten content, select "Generate Alternative Formats". This converts your file to WCAG AA 2.2 compliant HTML and more formats.
Once processing is complete select "View"
This opens the document editor to manually review and fine-tune your alternative formats. The editor includes standard text editing tools, alongside several dedicated remediation features:
To add alternate descriptions to images, select the image and chose "Image options". From the image options menu, you can write your description, or mark the image as decorative.
Select "Show Original PDF" to view your original document side-by-side with the editor, making it easier to fine-tune the accessible versions of the document.
Click on an equation or formula, or select the "MathType" icon from the toolbar to open the MathType equation editor.
Select "Show Extracted Assets" to view and reinsert images and links that were present in the original PDF.
To review your document's accessibility against WCAG 2.1 AA standards, select "Accessibility Checker".
When ready, export your accessible document as HTML, DOCX, PDF/UA, BRL or MP3.
